It’s Tasty Tuesday here at Little Slice of Joy….let’s make Easy Sausage Gravy!!
It’s a chilly Spring morning here at Joy Acres . Plus its Tasty Tuesday 🙂 So, I’d like to share a yummy sausage gravy recipe that is sure to warm the belly.
Super quick and easy! All it takes is 15 minutes and 4 ingredients and you’ll be pouring this over hot biscuits. There’s nothing better than a hot plate of biscuits and sausage gravy!
Sausage gravy isn’t just for winter, it’s a great hearty breakfast on any chilly morning! Although it usually ends up as a request for dinner here too after the OM has been out in the cold or rain for work.
I’m getting hungry just thinking about it..breakfast for dinner. Yummmm!! I’m not sure what makes pouring maple syrup over some French toast, the smell of bacon, or in this case, gravy over biscuits makes my mouth water; but, here we are lol!
So, if you want hot, hearty, easy to make and on the table in less than 15 minutes, then you are in the right spot. This sausage gravy recipe checks off the whole list.
How do you make “from scratch” sausage gravy?
Sausage gravy is super simple….just 3 easy steps and 4 ingredients:
Ingredients:1 lb pork breakfast sausage (we prefer my venison sausage)
1/4 cup all purpose flour
2 1/2 cups whole milk
1/8 tsp crushed red pepper (optional)
salt and pepper (to taste)
Directions:
- Brown pork over med/high heat, crumble it while cooking. Cook it thoroughly, no pink inside. Do NOT drain your meat or skillet!
- Sprinkle the browned meat evenly with flour. Continue cooking for about 1 minute until the flour is absorbed.
- Add the milk slowly, stirring well while pouring….you can add the crushed red pepper in this step if you choose.
**Remember to stir frequently as you continue cooking. The mixture will thicken as it cooks.
Serve over warm biscuits. Add salt and pepper to taste.
What do you do with leftover sausage gravy?
It’s not very often there is anything left over from this sausage gravy recipe, but if you do need to store some…
It can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge.
Can you reheat sausage gravy?
Of course you can. When you want to reheat it, either….
- Reheat in a skillet over low/medium heat; just add a bit of milk and stir until heated.
- Reheat in the microwave.
How do you thicken sausage gravy?
The gravy thickens from the flour in the recipe.
It seems runny when you first add the milk; but, you’ll notice, as you stir and continue cooking that it will get thick.
How thick should you make sausage gravy?
This is really a personal preference.
Some people like it runny and some people like it really thick.
You can stop cooking the sausage gravy when it is as thick as you like it. The longer it cooks, the thicker it gets.
